Answers to the questions we hear every week.

Ten common questions about lockouts, rekeys, pricing, licensing, and how we work โ€” answered straight, no upsell.

How fast can a locksmith actually get to me?

Inside Loop 410, we average 20โ€“30 minutes. Between 410 and 1604 it usually runs 30โ€“45 minutes, and outside 1604 up to about an hour. When you call, dispatch will give you a real estimate based on where the closest technician is at that moment โ€” not a marketing average.

Is your pricing really flat, or does it climb during the job?

Really flat. The technician gives you a written quote before touching your lock. If the job turns out to be different than you described on the phone, we stop, explain the new price, and only continue if you approve.

Do you charge extra at night or on weekends?

There is a modest after-hours dispatch fee for calls between 10 PM and 6 AM, and on major holidays. It is quoted on the phone before we dispatch โ€” never added at the door.

Can you rekey a lock instead of replacing it?

Almost always, yes. Rekeying is faster and cheaper than replacing the hardware and gives you the same security benefit โ€” the old keys no longer work. We only replace hardware when it is genuinely damaged or when you want to upgrade to a higher security grade.

Do you make car keys for newer vehicles with chips?

Yes. We program transponder keys and smart fobs for most makes and models from 1998 onward, including many European vehicles. Bring your title or registration and a photo ID โ€” we require both to cut a new car key.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Anderson Locksmiths holds a Texas Department of Public Safety Locksmith Company License, and carries $1,000,000 in general liability insurance. Every technician is individually licensed and background-checked.

Do you offer any kind of warranty?

Parts we install carry a 90-day manufacturer warranty at minimum. Our workmanship is guaranteed for one full year โ€” if something we did fails, we come back and fix it at no charge.

Do I have to be home for a rekey?

For a house rekey, yes โ€” we need someone eighteen or older on site with a photo ID that matches the address, or a signed authorization from the property owner. This is a policy we don't bend.

Can you install smart locks I already bought?

Absolutely. We install customer-provided August, Yale, Schlage Encode, Kwikset Halo, and most other retail smart locks. We also help set up the app, add family members, and verify auto-lock schedules before we leave.

What payment methods do you accept?

Cash, all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, Discover), Apple Pay, Google Pay, and business checks for account customers. Payment is due when the job is complete.
